1. General information
Objectives of the subject
The objective of the subject is for the student to approach the specialization in energy generation, in particular, the generation of energy from two sources of renewable energy: hydraulic and wind. Both of them are of great interest today. Thus, the teacher will explain the necessary content for the students to perform and program the operation, maintenance and design of these facilities.
Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda ( https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/es/) : Goal 7:Objectives 7.2 and 7.a; Goal 12: Objective 12.2
2. Learning results
- To acquire the skills to evaluate wind and hydraulic energy resources.
- To be able to select the most suitable hydraulic or wind equipment for each type of installation.
- To be able to carry out a project for the installation of a power plant, including its components and equipment.
- To be able to design the operation of the installation.
- To acquire the analytical skills to determine the behaviour of teams.
3. Syllabus
Block 1: Hydraulic power stations
a. Hydrological studies: characterization of basin and rivers.
b. Hydroelectric uses. Energy study.
c. Water conduits to the power plant.
d. Operation of hydraulic turbines and equipment of power plants.
Block 2: Wind exploitations.
a. General aspects.
b. The wind as a resource. Wind availability.
c. The wind turbine group.
d. Wind farm equipment.
4. Academic activities
- Master classes and problems (35 hours)
- Laboratory practices. (10 hours)
- Study and personal work. In this part, each student must dedicate, at least, about 65 hours, necessary for the study of theory and preparation of assignments and practical reports.
- Tutorials
5. Assessment system
The subject is preferably assessed by continuous evaluation. This will involve the production of theoretical-practical works in which the concepts and contents taught in the subject are applied and developed.
Alternatively, the student has the possibility of passing the subject by means of the global evaluation in the official calls for exams. In this case, the evaluation will be carried out through a theoretical-practical test on the dates established by the centre.
